Baby Massage is an ancient art that connects you deeply with your baby. As a Mother of four children myself, I know each baby has different needs and massage makes it easier to understand these needs at such a young age.
It is not just for parents who embrace a certain lifestyle, whether your baby sleeps with you, is breast- or bottle –fed, is weaned early or late – all these decisions are up to you.
Massaging your baby simply communicates love...
THE BENEFITS OF BABY MASSAGE:
* Helping to reduce the discomfort of colic, wind and constipation
* Promotes bonding between baby and parent
* Induces a deeper and longer sleep
* Helps weight gain in premature infants
* Stimulates and strengthens both the immune and nervous systems
* Relieves teething pain
* Improves blood circulation, muscle tone and sensory awareness
* Relieves respiratory disorders and sinus congestion
These are just a few of the benefits I can tell you about , cross cultural studies show that babies who are held, massaged, carried and rocked grow into adults that are more compassionate caring , secure and co operative.
I am running 5 week courses in baby massage throughout the year and would be delighted to meet you and your baby and share the techniques with you, please see below for details of the different types of sessions I run.
DETAILS OF THE COURSES
For all the massage sessions you will need:
* A big towel (I provide a changing mat for you).
* To wear loose clothing, as we will be working on the floor.
* A drink for your baby as they are usually thirsty after a massage.
* A bottle of oil (I can provide 50ml bottles of organic grapeseed oil for £2)
Ideally your baby will be 6 weeks old but massage is wonderful from any age, the youngest baby who has come to the classes was 2 weeks old! They are welcome to come until their mobility becomes too much of a challenge!!
Each week a new part of the body will be taught followed by a demonstration of the previous weeks massage just to remind you.
I demonstrate all the techniques on a specifically made massage doll and explain everything in full as you massage your own baby (you will be surprised how quickly the strokes will become second nature to you). I also have a spare doll so don’t worry if your baby is asleep or just not feeling themselves (which can happen) you are welcome to practise the techniques on her!
I am in the process of setting up classes in various centres and village halls and these will be relaxed and friendly and a good chance to meet new Mums (stay and have a coffee afterwards!). I would like to keep these to a maximum of 10 babies so early booking is recommended.
Cost: £25 per 5 week course (can be paid weekly) and include laminated notes and coffee and biscuits! Please check the list of what to bring above.
SMALL AND INTIMATE CLASSES
These relaxed and informal classes are being held in my warm and welcoming home in the countryside just outside Yetholm, with plenty of space for you and your baby to spend time together. Learning baby massage is a very special time and so these classes are small and enables you to come and chat with like minded- mothers (maximum of 6 babies) to ensure personal attention and a relaxed environment.
Cost- £30 for 4 weeks and includes a bottle of Organic Grapeseed Oil, laminated massage notes for you to keep and coffee and home baking.
(PLEASE NOTE if you have to miss a week or your baby is unwell you can come to another class at a later date if you wish, this applies to all of the classes)
PRIVATELY BOOKED CLASSES
If you have a group of friends (ante natal class or otherwise) then I would be happy to come and teach you in your own home or perhaps a local village hall (you could maybe alternate the venue each week to suit you?). Just give me a call and we can arrange dates and time together.
Cost: £50 per week for a 4 week Course (To be shared between a maximum of 8 parents to ensure personal attention and includes laminated notes and bottle of cold pressed organic massage oil for each parent)
This is for special need babies, twins or just as a special treat or present and is a 1 1/2 hour visit . Cost is £35 (with travel costs depending on distance) and includes laminated notes and bottle of organic grapeseed oil.
Do call me if you are mainly interested in colic as I can run Colic workshops (on demand) to help parents try specific massaging techniques.
Massage can have huge benefits to babies suffering from this and parents must know that they are not at fault for their babies discomfort but massage can hopefully help your baby manage these episodes.
Cost: £15 per group session or £30 for a personal session in my home. (date and time to be agreed to suit)
This includes a bottle of organic cold pressed massage oil and laminated notes.
I have on going classes on Mondays and so wont be available for bookings then.
Abbey Row Centre, KELSO, 10.30 - 11.30am
(£5 per class, includes laminated notes and coffee)
(Please check dates on booking form)
DROP IN SESSION every Tuesday from 1pm-2pm for anyone who has completed the course and wants to come for the massage and coffee!
(£4 per class including coffee).
I run a class from home on a wednesday morning from 10am-11am.
I am currently arranging other dates and venues and so do let me know if you would like to be booked onto these, you may have a preferred day/time/venue and I will keep lists accordingly!
If you have any further questions then do feel free to call about any of the above as I would be happy to explain anything in fuller detail.
